Getting There

Pearl’s garden is open to visitors Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm, year-round. There is no entrance fee, but donations are encouraged.

Parking is on the street or in a vacant lot across from the Fryar garden. Please be respectful of Pearl’s neighbors when you park on the street and do not obstruct the flow of traffic.

From Hartsville:

The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden is approximately 20 miles southwest of Hartsville.

Take US-15 south from Hartsville.  At the intersection of 15 and 34, make right to stay on 15 and head southwest towards Bishopville.  Remain on 15 and pass through downtown Bishopville. Broad Acres Road is the first right turn after the cemetery. There is a large sign and small topiary marking the road entrance. Turn right onto Broad Acres.  Proceed on Broad Acres Road.  Pearl’s house and garden are on the left.  You cannot miss it!

From Sumter:

The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden is approximately 22 miles north of Sumter.

Take US-15 north from Sumter for approximately 20 miles. Pass under I-20. You will see several fast food establishments (including the Waffle House made famous in A Man Named Pearl).  Proceed approximately ½ a mile north.  Stay in the left lane.  Broad Acres Road is immediately after the woods (if you pass the cemetery, you have gone too far). There is a large sign and small topiary marking the road entrance.  Make a sharp left turn onto Broad Acres.  Proceed on Broad Acres Road.  Pearl’s house and garden are on the left.  You cannot miss it!

From Columbia:

The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden is approximately 45 miles east of Columbia.

Head east from Columbia on I-20. Take exit 116 to Bishopville. Make a right from the exit ramp to head north towards Bishopville. You will pass several fast food establishments (including the Waffle House made famous in A Man Named Pearl).  Proceed north. Stay in the left lane. From Charleston:

The  Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden is approximately 130 miles northwest of Charleston.

Head west from Charleston on I-26.  Merge onto I-95 and head north towards Florence. Exit 108 to Summerton.  Turn left at Buff Blvd/State Rd S-14-102. Turn right at Church St/US-15 North.  Continue to follow US-15 North for about 45 miles. At this point, please follow directions from Sumter, SC.

From Charlotte, NC:

The  Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden is approximately 130 miles southeast of Charlotte. From Charlotte, you can drive to Columbia or Hartsville and then follow the directions above from there.
